Apologies in advance for this lengthy post... As I reflect on my weekend, where I attended a Leadership Conference in VA Beach, I finally realize that Southwest Virginia Community College is a blessing in disguise. I can say this for numerous reasons, but I will only touch base on a few: 1} People. This is a biggie for me! The faculty and staff are tremendous; not a day goes by that I dont appreciate all that they do for me. I am proud of all that they accomplish. At SWCC, I am not just a number. I have come in contact with so many individuals that I am thankful for simply because they have had some type of impact on my life. I have established bonds that shall never cease. 2} Opportunities. I have traveled many times, attended conferences/workshops as well as joined clubs and committees (not to mention being a work study and an ambassador). 3} Individualism. The thing that is really hard, but also really amazing, is giving up on trying to be what others see as acceptable or perfect and beginning to work on being yourself. I can honestly say that SWCC encourages that! I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be. Southwest Virginia Community College has been the best stepping stone for my subsequent educational endeavors.
