Apparently some of my newer Grossey Pointey friends dont know me that well - hell, maybe some of my old Grossey Pointey (or convention, or Kalamazoo, or . . .) friends dont know me that well. So here, ten random facts just because. Do the same if you feel like it! 1) I am a published author, though only short stories and poetry and not since high school. However, I was once in a writers workshop led by Catherynne Valente and Jim C. Hines, and some day I will actually do something with the pieces Ive written since gaining all that valuable critique. Related to this, I participate in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo/NaNo) almost every year, though Ive only reached the goal twice and never actually finished the story I started. 2) I never finished college, and probably wont. 3) I still dont know what I want to be when I grow up. 4) High school was very definitely not what one might consider my Glory Days. 5) I have a daughter who is a cheerleader. Sometimes, this gives me nightmares - in my head, cheerleaders are basically the same as they are in every nineties movie ever. 6) At one point in my life, I could play something like fifteen different instruments - not proficiently in most cases, but enough to fill in on a song or two if needed. This is in addition to singing. 7) Vocally, Im a contralto (between tenor and alto). Both the highs of alto and lows of tenor give me trouble. The struggle is real, folks. 8) In my head, Im very often the same person I thought I was from about sixth grade on. I didnt like myself much, and neither did most other people. 9) I did better on my SAT when I was in sixth grade than I did as a junior (senior? IDK) in high school. 10) 98% of social situations involving people from about 22 up terrify me. I have to work myself into them, like a kid dipping toes in the pool, but Ive heard from most people I know now that theyd never guess it from the way I act once Im there.
