Apparition at the Ansonia Hotel in New York City The Ansonia hotel opened in 1904. “On Christmas Eve 2003, Maurice D. Valentine, an employee of The North Face outdoor store, located inside the landmark hotel, was tidying up the men’s department when a man appeared. The man’s handlebar mustache, big-brimmed hat, and long, dark, cloak looked old-fashioned. He walked with purpose and vanished. The once-skeptical Valentine stood in dumb wonder. Later fortified with drink, he shared his experience with a coworker and learned that other employees had experienced inexplicable things as well. Others saw the mysterious man, heard party noises after closing, and found objects that had moved.
