Appearing on The Laura Ingraham Show Monday, columnist and former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan slammed both President Obama’s executive action on amnesty and Republicans’ leadership in combating the President’s action. Buchanan said Monday that the Republican Party was “no unified party. I’m sure the Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable and the others are saying ‘go ahead with the pro forma protest… but let it go.’” “Secondly, others inside are saying, ‘there’s nothing really we can do because all Obama’s doing is ceasing to deport people he wasn’t deporting anyhow, and we don’t want to try to impeach him and we don’t want to shut down the government – both of those didn’t work.’ “So I think you’ve got a conflicted, confused Republican leadership already that Barack Obama knew that’s what would happen… and he went right at it.” On Thursday, President Obama announced he would take executive action allowing five million illegal immigrants to register for background checks, pay back taxes, have the ability to work, and receive Social Security cards. Buchanan called this a “second amnesty”: “Historically, he’s [Obama] going to be responsible, of course, for this whole decision which I don’t think we realize how serious it is because I mean, if you’re a group that’s outside the country you say ‘look, that’s the second amnesty, the Americans can’t control the border. You get in then you’re there permanently and you got a huge chance of succeeding and not being turned back.’ “I think, really, you’re talking about the beginning of the end of the United States as one nation and one people when you’ve got your country open to really what is an invasion from abroad that you cannot really control.” Buchanan thought dismay on the issue of immigration could give rise to an American version of the United Kingdom Indepedence Party (UKIP), a right-leaning party that takes a hard line stance on immigration, including breaking away from the European Union (EU). While UKIP has won several seats in the European Parliament, only recently have they won their first seats in the House of Commons. “This sort of thing is going to happen in the United States because people, this is the key thing, people sense that they’re losing completely the country they grew up in.” Read more at westernjournalism/buchanan-executive-amnesty-beginning-end-us-one-nation/#slbDVW3klo3T6bPC.99
