Apple iOS 8 (1 week old) is already on almost 50% of active - TopicsExpress

Apple iOS 8 (1 week old) is already on almost 50% of active devices. Meanwhile, Google Android KitKat (10 months old) is still heading towards only 25% of active devices. This is what we talk about when we mention that Android is fragmented and manufacturers are slow to provide updates for their devices. When you allow so many different manufacturers to make so many models without having strict standards on OS support, then you can see them rest on their laurels. Most of these manufacturers arent understanding that it damages their reputation to not update their previous 1 or 2 product lines to have support for the latest OS. All those fancy specs, yet they cant even run KitKat! User want to upgrade! And these manufacturers seem to make it appear that they just dont prioritize sending out updates. What a sad state of affairs for Android users. This is the kind of thing that prevents me from considering a jump to Android, and its a problem that must be solved before some of us will ever do it. Who wants to buy a super specced out device that will never get a future OS update and not get to take advantage of next years OS features? Not me. theverge/2014/9/23/6832403/ios-8-adoption-rate-statistics
