Applied California Current Ecosystem Studies Partnership Surveys During Peak Whale Season The Applied California Current Ecosystem Studies (ACCESS) Partnership completed their July survey on board the NOAA R/V Fulmar. Excellent sea conditions allowed the team to collect observations of a high abundance of whales in the region, seabirds, sharks and a leatherback sea turtle. Water sampling for ocean acidification measures was also completed. Integrated data collection assesses the health of the marine ecosystem and provides information to resource managers, such as the abundance and distribution of baleen whales in relation to shipping lanes to reduce potential vessel strikes to whales.
