As the Aboriginal Claims Negotiations Support Intern you will assist in researching, analyzing and synthesizing natural resource management program information, the procurement of specialized professional services and stakeholder consultation processes that support aboriginal land claim negotiations. How do I qualify? Mandatory • Proof of eligibility to work in Canada; and • Proof of full-time enrolment in a recognized post-secondary college or university or graduation within the last 5 years. • Candidates are only eligible to participate in a maximum of two placements. Knowledge and Skills • knowledge of natural resource management principles and practices; • knowledge of project management to assist in procurement processes and evaluation of program and policy options; • knowledge of consultation processes and effective mechanisms for engaging stakeholders and the general public; • strong oral and written communication skills • research and analytical skills to review and synthesize technical, policy and legal information • organizational skills to assist in planning and delivery of materials for a variety of meetings and to manage multiple projects at the same time • professionalism, judgment, demonstrated ability to work in teams, to address contentious issues and to build support for proposed approaches • knowledge of the Ontario Governments and Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestrys policies, strategic directions, priorities and organization; • information management and computer skills coupled with knowledge of computer operations and standard software to conduct research, maintain data bases and prepare reports Note: The successful candidate will begin at the base-level pay rate and will move up in the pay scale in accordance with the OPSEU collective agreement.
