Approaches to the Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver Problem I split off from the rest of the Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver Group. They chose the behind the scenes approach over my director approach to the problem. They characterize my approach as reckless and dangerous, in that it could result in losing benefits to the 20% of those tribal members who are eligible to use the program. I characterize their approach and being ingenuous and timid, it that some others in high places have said that there is no political solution and the fact that their approach has resulted in 79 years of little or nothing being accomplished. With that being said, I hope that Chair Payment will be open with us about the itinerary of himself and the others that he’s with in Washington, D.C. The likelihood is that he’s there with an MITW brochure in hand and visiting the offices of various interior, education and Indian departments. While our approaches are different our goals are not.
