April 27 Lake Erie fishing report Walleye are still spawning - TopicsExpress

April 27 Lake Erie fishing report Walleye are still spawning on the lake how ever the recent cold snap and easterly winds have slowed the catch rates. Limits are still being taken by some jig fishing on the near shore and outside reefs how ever this is the exception. The bite is as consistent as the weather we are dealing with. Fair weather kind winds good catches and vise versa. The spawn is split with the older females being done and the younger walleye I suspect will be spawning for another two weeks as we have not seen many of them. Low water in the Maumee and Sandusky Rivers has put a end to the river run walleye. How ever a fresh flow of current may bring another surge up the rivers. Most likely scenario is white bass will show. It soon will be bottom bouncers and night crawlers for walleye fishing. The water temperature needs to warm up to get the walleye more active and aggressive for the spinner bite. Lets hope for some descent warm weather. Trolling reef runners, crawler harnesses, Huskey Jerks etc has been the same as jig fishing on the lake. Prone to water conditions and weather. Slow troll as the water temperature is very cold for this time of year. 1 to 1 1/2 mph. I suspect we are going to have a very good July and August for walleye as the lake sure is taking her good ole time warming up.
