Aransas Pass No Longer Adopting Out Animals ARANSAS PASS - Adopting out dogs and other animals in Aransas Pass is coming to an end. The city is now euthanizing instead of adopting out. The temporary new policy has been adopted by city manager Sylvia Carrillo to get a better handle on animal services. Action 10 has learned that as of June 20th, the city manager implemented a euthanasia only policy for all animals left unclaimed after three days. A letter to residents pointed out that the number one responsibility of animal control is to control the stray animal population, not as an adoption facility. She says poor adoption practices, like owners adopting dogs to be used for fighting, as one of the reasons for the policy change. Carrillo admits she may be violating a city ordinance that calls for adoption. I would say the entire health population overall is important which is the intent of that and any ordinance is the overall public health as the overall protection of the community, Carrillo told us. Aransas Pass is now asking local rescue groups to take in animals before theyre put down. Well have more on her decision and the community reaction, tonight on Action 10 News.
