Architect Spotlight: George F. Fossum (1880-1932) was an architect in Aberdeen in the early twentieth century. The son of Norwegian immigrants, he studied at Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell and the Armour Institute of Technology in Chicago. From his office in Aberdeens Van Slyke Block, he designed the Municipal Building at 123 S. Lincoln in 1913, Isaac Lincoln Hall at Northern State University in 1917, the Barnard Consolidated School in 1922, several commercial buildings downtown, and at least three churches including the First Presbyterian Church shown below. He designed in Chicago, Prairie, classicist, and ecclesiastical Gothic styles.
