Archive Associate - Friends Historical Library - Swarthmore College Swarthmore College is a highly selective liberal arts college located in the suburbs of Philadelphia, whose mission combines academic rigor with social responsibility. Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College is the largest repository of archival, manuscript, printed and visual records of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). In addition, Friends Historical Library serves as the official College Archives of Swarthmore College. The Library is currently accepting applications for the position of Archival Associate. The Associate will be responsible for departmental administrative duties including monitoring of financial records, processing bills and invoices, monitoring budget, assisting Curator in accessioning new manuscripts and archival records and sending standard acknowledgments, maintaining donor files; adding new accessions to on-line database, maintaining paperwork, and creating accession files for new gifts, overseeing maintenance and repairs of office machines, keeping contracts up-to-date, managing supplies inventories, ordering and working with vendors, submitting appropriate time sheets for bi-weekly employee and non-exempt employees, advertising for and maintaining records of student employees, as well as maintaining office files and information systems. Provides reference service to on-site visitors, college offices and enquiries by e-mail, telephone or other means, conducts research to answer queries and for the description of archival and manuscript collections. Takes major responsibility for the digital outreach and digital humanities projects, including reviewing existing programs and refining those programs or initiate new projects. Qualified candidates must possess bachelor’s degree; two to three years archival experience; strong computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office, Photoshop and a willingness to learn and adopt new technologies, particularly those related to the presentation of and access to primary documentation, good written and oral communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates who have an advanced degree in Archives, librarianship, history or related field and/or knowledge of American and European history.
