Are heavy fermions low temperature cousins of high temperature - TopicsExpress

Are heavy fermions low temperature cousins of high temperature superconductors? Heavy fermions are materials in which the electrons effectively acquire a huge mass. Some of them superconduct at low temperatures. In a back to back publication in Nature Physics Brian B. Zhou, Shashank Misra, Eduardo Higino Da Silva Neto, Pegor Aynajian and colleagues and M.P. Allen and colleagues reveal the d-wave pairing symmetry of a heavy fermion superconductor and pseudo-gap-like feature (superconducting gap that precedes superconductivity) both akin to cuprate high temperature superconductors. nature/nphys/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nphys2671.html nature/nphys/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nphys2672.html
