Are the ALP wrong in their objections to Knighthoods. In the past - TopicsExpress

Are the ALP wrong in their objections to Knighthoods. In the past this has gone as far as as dismissing Sir Jack Egerton and his wife from the party, for accepting such an honour. Sir William McKell had left the party to become Governor General and as such the it could take no action against him. Both men had come from humble beginnings and achieved high office in this country finally being recognised by their sovereign. Neither the UK whose Labor PMs have not only accepted knighthoods but also peerages, or the New Zealand party who have knights amongst its ranks of former Prime Ministers have such objections.
