He forbade the Jews to follow their religious practices and commanded that copies of the Law be burned. He desecrated the temple and abolished the daily sacrifice. Those Jews, who violated the covenant, were promised by Antiochus to receive a great reward if they turned from their God and worshiped the Greek god, Zeus. Many were persuaded by his promises and flattery and worshiped the false god. However, a small remnant remained faithful to God, refusing to engage in those abominable practices. As Christians in the United States we seem to be facing similar circumstances. Already we are told prayer isn’t allowed in school, “Merry Christmas” is no longer politically correct – it has been replaced with “Happy Holidays”, freedom of religion is quickly becoming a, “for all religions except Christianity”, freedom. And the list goes on. It looks as though the evil one is seeking to exterminate Christianity in the US. Are you ready to take a radical stand for God even in the midst of evil? Don’t say yes too quickly. The battle will be fierce and casualties will be many! It is not for the faint of heart! But it is possible to stand and not be shaken in those days if people KNOW their God!
