Arguing against something does not mean valuing the opposing stance. For Heidegger, we must not ‘‘immediately assume that what speaks against something is automatically its negation and that this is ‘negative’ in the sense of destructive’’. Negating a position is tantamount to making way for novel pathways of critical thought-- an opening up that allows a new position. In other words, criticizing something does not automatically mean that the opposite position is assigned merit-- it means that a space is opened up within which the issue at hand can be discussed unencumbered by previous thought. The clearing of thought inherent to critique allows thought to think about the issue in new and novel ways. Opposition to an issue in no way implies a defense of the opposite position but rather opens up new horizons. #non #binary #thinking #Gaza #Israel #Heidegger
