Jonah had grown up with a hatred of Nineveh & couldn’t bear being sent there to preach. He couldn’t bear d thought of these hated people actually repenting & being blessed by God. Beloved, u have two basic choices when someone does u wrong. Do wrong back to them. Or, return good for evil. The world says, “Love your friends. Be loyal to yo friends.” But it’s altogether another thing to love an enemy, someone who is pursuing u for destruction. An enemy is not someone u think of when u thinks of love. In fact for most of us we find it very hard to have any love or feelings toward our enemies. Perhaps it is a family member, an old friend, a colleague, a boss or even a complete stranger. Maybe an enemy of God who takes it out on u, or someone whose evil action u have exposed & is now out to get u. Maybe someone said something about u or did something to hurt u. Have u ever thought about loving yo enemy? God has placed a higher calling on His children, & He expects much more from us. When we learn to love & be loved by God, it enables us to effectively love others & create a secure bond with unfriendly people. Nineveh is d people who have hurt u deeply & God says, “Go & give them my message of love.” How can I love someone who hates me & wants to bring me harm? Do good to them: when u find a way u can do something good for one of yo worst enemies, do it. Bless them: when u think of d person who is slandering u, find ways to work blessing into yo thoughts. Pray for them: Why don’t u begin to pray & intercede for them. Beloved, today is d perfect day to stop hating yo enemies & start loving. Will u do what is easy or will u do what is right? “But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” Matt. 5:44.
