Armenian Genocide Museum of America The Armenian Genocide Museum of America (AGMA) will be the premier institution in the United States dedicated to educating American and international audiences about the Armenian Genocide and its continuing consequences. Through the initial online museum and the planned museum building in Washington, DC, visitors will learn how the Armenian Genocide, instead of being condemned and outlawed, became the prototype of modern crimes against humanity, including the Holocaust, Cambodia, Rwanda, and Darfur. AGMA is committed to honoring the victims and survivors of the 20th centurys first genocide. It aspires to do so by also highlighting the historic identity of the Armenian people, their art and culture, and their perseverance in the face of adversity. Visitors will learn about the ultimate failure of the international community to hold the perpetrators accountable for their crimes -- hence the vitally necessary purpose of a living institution dedicated to the quest for justice -- and why the story of the Armenians and all other peoples who have suffered similar fates must be told. With powerful presentations to promote action and discussion, AGMA will incorporate interactive exhibits and educational programs reflecting the latest scholarship and the use of state-of-the-art technology. The project will begin with an online version that will offer the same resonant contents to visitors anywhere in the world with exhibits focusing on the Armenian Genocide to reinforce the universal message of our common humanity and collective responsibility. AGMA is a collaborative effort by the Armenian Genocide Museum and Memorial Inc, the Armenian Assembly of America, and the Armenian National Institute, with Gallagher & Associates and Martinez & Johnson Architecture as the planning firms. The Armenian Genocide Museum of America will offer a place for reflection and learning filled with hope, inspiration and a commitment to eradicating the scourge of genocide through education and a focus on prevention.
