Army Cadets from Ashby Detachment sold poppies in the run-up to Remembrance weekend in Ashby raising £450.20, and resulting in the presentation of a prestigious award. A selection of cadets were chosen to form a Guard of Honour as part of the towns Annual Remembrance Service last Friday at Holy Trinity Church, and during the service, Ashby Detachment was awarded a shield in recognition of their dedication and hard work for the Royal British Legion, presented to cadet LCpl Morgan Williams by Paul Stokes, a senior member of the Ashby Branch, The Royal British Legion. Ashby Detachment also took part in the towns well-attended Remembrance Parade last Sunday. Detachment commander staff sergeant instructor Tom Bennett, who will be stepping down as the towns parade marshal this year after six years in the role, said: “I’m immensely proud of Ashby Detachment and what we have achieved this year. Every cadet should be equally proud; they are a credit to the ACF. The meticulous planning and behind the scenes work which goes on is incredible to make these parades run like clockwork. Its been an absolute honour to have been the towns parade marshal and I am now looking forward to leading my detachment on parade next year.
