Around 1660, in obedience to a divine command, our forefathers shifted the deity to Vittal. This migration of Shrimath Anantheshwar from Vokkettur to Vittal is still kept alive in our memory. Every year, before the start of the annual Shashti festival, it is customary for the priests to go to Vokkettur - the Aadisthala as it is called - and bring the sacred Mrittika or earth. Grains are then sprouted in it and it is given away as Prasada before the devotees say goodbye to Vittal. This ceremony is the beginning of the festival and this year it happens to fall on the 23rd of November 2014. Devotees throng to see this ceremony as they believe that it gives a sense of completeness
