Around 1980, Max Roach performed a solo drum concert at one of the Dallas museums. It lasted just under an hour. He did not lecture, explain and barely spoke at all other than a brief introduction and a thank you at the end. He basically demonstrated the entire history of drums and percussion through the decades of jazz. It was truly amazing hearing what sounds this man could produce on a trap set. Here is a short example of his hi hat skills.
