~ Artificial Intelligence -- A question for you ~ Thinks about this. Many scientists predict that we will soon create artificially intelligent machines that have the design capability of the human brain. In other words, these intelligent computers will have the ability to redesign and improve on their own design. Soon after this, these computers (or artilects) will be able to exceed the design capability of our entire species. At this point in time, these computers will be capable of taking over control of their own evolution, without the evolutionary constraints of biological systems. In other words, they will be able to make improvements and evolve at a much faster rate than we have through biological evolution. At this point in time it becomes near-on impossible to predict what will happen. Heres the thing... Desire is a part of the evolutionary drive of into biological systems. From an evolutionary perspective, were sophisticated biological machines driven by an innate desire to help the passage biological information (genes/DNA) through time. MY QUESTION IS THIS: Do you think that super intelligent robots will have the same desire or drive to explore the universe, or would they just see the whole thing as a pointless endeavor?
