As Chair of the Assemblys APG on Science and Technology, the annual Science and Stormont seminar is one of my favourite events. The day brings a wide range of expert speakers in to engage with and inform policy makers. The theme this year, Science Education in Northern Ireland, is of particular relevance. By hearing from the experts, we can pin point the problems prohibiting strong engagement with STEM subjects and identify strategies to enthuse and encourage pupils. By tackling the way our curriculum and teachers often handle STEM subjects in the wrong way, we can help pupils to not only enjoy science, but to secure employment in later life and contribute to a more dynamic and innovative economy in the future.
