As I said earlier my Mom had a good reason for going out today. She had committed to to go to the Peacock acres 5K Turkey trot. The SPCA for Monterey has a program called Take the lead that partners the shelter dogs with children and teens in the county. Mom oversees the program. Peacock is one of these groups the SPCA partners with. They work with children that are in foster care and beyond. They are a truly amazing group. Janie loves working with the children and has a fabulous time having the kids take her through the agility course. There are times when Janie will be placed in the program when there is a special needs case. Usually the reason will vary why. She has work with children that have autism to help them communicate. One autistic child who would not talk in front of people worked with Janie and after 5 weeks he was speaking to her, holding her leash when walking and talking to us about her. It was amazing to see. I was asked to bring her into one group where we work with incarcerated youth because one teen had been put on suicide watching they were trying to find outlets to help him. Watching the bond and seeing first hand the change she has brought to him and so many is a true blessing. Sorry this became long winded but I am mighty proud of my big sister.
