As I was walking into my kitchen this morning I noticed a bird of prey perched on the bird feeder in the backyard. The story matches this picture montage as follows. Top right: I see the bird, immediately exit from the kitchen to retrieve my phone (its a next-to-latest model mobile manufactured by a well known company named after fruit). I return and take this picture. Left: the bird has not moved despite my phone photography. I now grab my binoculars (theyre 10x42, well made but not top of the line) and place my mobile phones camera in the right eyepiece and take this picture. Lower right: after the bird finally flew away, I used my bird identification app to provide candidate bird species to match this specimen. The one pictured is a Sharp-Shinned Hawk and is one of the exemplars shown in the app. It is a small hawk between 12-14 in length that is known to hunt at backyard feeders.
