As I was watching these clips, it reminded me of the rare opportunity I and approx 20-30 other students of the RTV department had to meet and question Rod Serling at St. Petersburg Junior College in 1972. The discussion took place in the social arts building in studio B on the third floor. I believe Night Gallery was still on the network at that time because of the types of questions being asked. He was very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable regarding writing techniques and how to translate them to the screen. He had a very overwhelming presence about him even though he was not very tall. I believe he had quite a few tiffs with the network with both shows. but usually got his way. Even with his short stature, you knew this wiry man could take on anybody. He was a great writer that could easily be as comfortable in front of the camera as he was behind it. He could take a scene of dialogue and make it come alive as the masterful storyteller that he was. I believed he passed away several years later from open heart surgery. What a shame.
