As a Republican I have been asked what is my idea for Health Care - TopicsExpress

As a Republican I have been asked what is my idea for Health Care reform so I thought I would present it here: I do not believe that people are entitled to anything, but as an individual living in a modern age I believe in rational compassion: one federal exchange that allows individuals to purchase insurance plans via tax credits like the current ACA 1) changes the law allowing insurance to sell across state lines significantly lowering premiums2) changing the law that caused cancelations 3) ending mandates 4) Americans without insurance will be automatically covered via high deductible catastrophic only plans that include a basic first line tier RX plan, 4 PCP visits with co pay and annual basic preventive care. This solves the issue of young people not being insured or simple illnesses resulting in ER trips driving up costs. It stops the issue of the healthy not signing up and paying into premiums and then jumping on when sick. So if you purchase a plan instead of the basic guaranteed catastrophic plan you do share in some of the premium cost but the tax credit will cover most of it. Just like the current ACA. 5) The tax credits and basic issued catastrophic plans are all covered via 4% national consumption tax. 6) states may elect to direct the sales tax money and opt out if they choose to experiment with their own universal health care plan ideas. I think this would be a rational, functional compromise palatable to the American people. It addresses many of the key issues that people support and object to. The law would be less draconian and practical in composition making it readable and more easily executed. Thoughts?
