As a child I loved going down home. Cheraw Sc has all the red clay - TopicsExpress

As a child I loved going down home. Cheraw Sc has all the red clay and sand you could possibly want. To me it was the best place on earth! I would curl up in the back seat of moms 76 Monte Carlo and sleep on the way; so the drive seemed shorter. Just before you get to Cheraw you cross the The Great Pee Dee River , the ridges on the bridge would be my wake up call. With each ridge there was a thump and a bump. I would wake up so excited, I knew if was fixing to see all the family. Most of all, Missy. We were cousins and the best of friends. It would take us hours to catch up. We couldnt afford long distant calls back then. Now things are so different, the bump and thump of the Pee Dee River bridge no longer has the same affect. After Missy passed in 2003; the bridge is more like a nightmare. Tomorrow I will cross the Dreaded Bridge to bury another cousin. I would give anything to go over that bridge with the innocent excitement one more time. Its the little things that you miss as you get older; not the silly things we stress about day to day. Love and cherish your family while you have them....
