As a community, we urgently and desperately need to invest in building an infrastructure that provides vital services required for the Muslim community to protect and maintain their civil, religious, and human rights. This will require a rethink in our priorities when it comes to charity and social activism. Do we continue to expend most of our efforts and money in aid work abroad, dawah, and things like building mosques/centres, or do we prioritise the work necessary in safeguarding our rights that enables us to do all of these activities in the first place? I would think the logical thing to do is focus on the latter, as without safeguarding our rights, nothing else will be possible. All forms of social activism and charity that we currently enjoy is dependent upon us having our rights and freedom in the first place. If we don’t start rethinking our priorities, we will simply be fighting for the fruits of a tree whilst the roots continue to be severed. ___________________________________________ Salman Butt Azad Ali Aamar Alam Ejaz Taj Zhill Abd Rahman Yusuf SreIslamic Patel Muhammad Dilwar Hussain Ghulam Esposito Haydar Yasmin Khatun Anthony Green Sufyan Ismail, CEO of MEND Majid Freeman Abdul Majid Majid Freeman Eustachy Grzegorzewski MEND - Muslim Engagement and Development IFE Euston Unit Saleem Chagtai Umer South London Leyla Habebti Guz Javed Khan Imran ibn Mansur Ibrahim Ali Wasim Kempson
