As a former social worker, this bothered me immensely ... and now Im conflicted. I NEVER give money to these guys because my personal experiences have taught me that they usually bring their daily take into the nearby Shell station or 7-11 and exit with a brown-bagged beer. And, believing their Jobless, HUNGRY, God bless signage, I only offer food in lieu of cash, or walk over to buy the person a Subway meal, yet I have often watched them take whatever food theyre offered and deposit it in a pile, just out of sight, and later left abandoned after the sun has set. I never know each mans (or womans) circumstances (or THIS guys) leading up to first sighting them, of course, but more often than not it appears to me most of these individuals have freely chosen their disheveled, vagabond lifestyles and have zero intention to work or improve their present day existence in this life.
