As a horseman and horse trainer, I have had to wrestle with a moral dilemma over the last year. I make great, safe (honest), performance partners who give their all. Ive focused mainly on excellence in myself and horses I make. I thought I was good at screening potential owners. I was wrong. Ive had to learn the hard way to have a strict set of boundaries and really, a test of character, for potential owners. I absolutely cannot abide it if a horse I taught to trust and respect and work for a human gets neglected, or used and thrown away. Too many people expect the horse to take care of them, work their heart out for them, yet they dont give the horse the same consideration. Dont even get me started on how people can be great at manipulating a seller!!!! The future of the horse industry and the future of horses depends on making better owners/riders/stewards of horses. Thats the real truth. That is no small task to inspire people to be better for horses.
