As a journalist, it is difficult at times to report news. Upsetting, sad and devastating things happen in our community that make ones ability to report on it incredibly difficult. Today is one of those days. As I write this, my eyes are filled with tears and my heart is heavy. For over a year, I, along with the rest of Ascension, have been following the story of the young, the vibrant and the beautiful Breanna Bercegeay, as she battled acute myeloid leukemia. We cheered her on and prayed for her battle to be won. Today, sweet Breanna lost that battle. I ache for her family and her friends and all in our community who cared so deeply for her. Our only glimmer of hope is that Breanna is now at peace and that she is no longer in pain or having to deal with such a confusing life at such a tender and young age. I think I speak for all of Ascension when I say that we loved you, Breanna. We always will. You touched our souls in ways we never thought possible. We watched you grow and blossom into such a strong young girl. We will miss you greatly, but will continue cheering for you and all the other children like you that mean the world to us. You fought like a champion and taught us all a valuable lesson. Life is what you make it. And you, sweet girl, made it glorious! (Charlotte Guedry, Owner/Publisher/Editor)
