As a lifelong fan of film scores, it takes a lot to impress me. I spent my teenage years listening to Michael Kamen, Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer while my peers were rockin out to Pearl Jam. So yeah, Im spoiled. Then along comes Paul Haslinger. His scores for Shoot Em Up and the remake of Death Race caught my attention, along with the fact that, as a member of 1980s New Age group Tangerine Dream, he had worked on the scores for Wavelength and Firestarter. It wasnt until I heard the score for Vacancy that I officially became a die-hard fan. Haslingers score elevates what is essentially a B-movie to an entirely different level; his music for the film recalls the work of frequent Hitchcock collaborator Bernard Herrmann, which is not a comparison I make lightly. Submitted for your approval, here is the main title theme from Vacancy. Crank it up and enjoy. Youre welcome.
