As a member of the Abenaki Nation of Massachusetts, I know this story only too well.. The English as well as the Normans, Basques , Viking and Spanish fishermen and slave traders roamed the shores of our lands in search of fish and humans . They kidnapped and brought many to Europe some of whom died there but others were able to return as guides etc. Even to this day, we are not recognized as Indian People by the United States because we fought the English and Americans and never gave up like so many other tribes who sold out or even joined the English to hunt us down like dogs..We are a Soverign Nation and we will never give up our rights as human beings Aylnu.... We dont need a piece of paper or dog tag number from some white bureaucrats or brown lackeys in the B.I.A. Bureau of Indian Abuse , to know who we are or where we come from. We are children of the Great Spirit and we need to remember that our mission as Indigenous Peoples is to love and respect one another and cherish our Mother Earth.
