As a (not diagnosed) Aspie, I can tell you that yes, my brain - TopicsExpress

As a (not diagnosed) Aspie, I can tell you that yes, my brain works like a sponge. The things that other people apparently discard or ignore just soak right into my brain. I pick up mostly on the emotions of the people around me, and that is made better/worse by things like persistent noise, stress, bright lights, and other sensory issues. I am very easily overwhelmed and exhausted by people. Very easily. If two people talk to me at the same time, it derails my mind. It isnt that I am supercompassionate. I FEEL WITH you. I am like a walking mirror and sometimes the only thing I can do to protect myself from feeling what you feel is to withdraw from you. It is not because I am cold, or distant - the opposite is likely true. If you have been in my life, the bigger likelihood is that I love you very much and I am never really sure what to do with that. I think it might be something to consider the next time a person with sensory issues withdraws from you. It may not be because they do not see you but rather because they see you better than most.
