As a vet who has used the VA medical services since the 90’s, I’d like to offer a word of praise while they’re taking so many hits. There are obviously problems with the system and the ethics of some in upper management, but there are also a lot of competent, caring, dedicated professionals working within the system to help vets with their medical problems. I have a thyroid issue that manifested itself through some painful and debilitating symptoms. It was misdiagnosed by a civilian doctor as arthritis, but caught almost immediately by a physician’s assistant working with the VA when I went there for a second opinion. Since then, I have had an ongoing relationship with the VA involving regular visits and a prescription that I must take once a day. Whatever troubles they have, I just want to go on record to say that everyone connected with the VA with whom I’ve worked has served well and treated me with kindness, respect, competence and the utmost professionalism. Good people always make a difference in any organization. No complaints here.
