As a young street dog, I’ve had to learn so much, so quickly. Being hit by a car made me realise how scary the world can be for a dog that has no owner to care for him. My name is Modac. I am just 5 months old. I didn’t see the car until it was too late. I was running around trying to find food and darted into the road without paying attention. I guess I was still too young to have learnt the road sense of the older dogs. A kind man who saw what had happened took me to a vet clinic for emergency treatment and after that, I was picked up by another man called Khun Jaroon. He is an Animal Rescue Officer with Soi Dog and he drove me to the shelter, where I am being cared for now. I have some fractures in both my back legs but that doesn’t stop me trying to move around. The vets say I have a lot of energy because I am just a young boy. They say I need to stop moving so much because I have some special pins in my legs to help my fractures heal. Although I’m not a fan of the dry dog food here, I do love the wet dog food and the chicken. The vets say my good appetite should help me make a full recovery. They have also been telling me about the special Soi Dog supporters who funded my care. Without their regular donations, Khun Jaroon would not have been able to pick me up from that clinic and take me to the Soi Dog shelter. As a street dog, my future would not have looked good. I wish I could tell you that my story is unique but this is far from the truth. There are many street dogs – and cats too – that desperately need you. They are sick or injured; they have been abused or abandoned. Without YOU, there is simply nobody else to help these animals. YOU are their only hope.
