As always....the underdog! Just how we like it. Get Up! Lets Go! Huskerland Prep Class C-1 State Championship: Ashland-Greenwood (12-0) vs. Boone Central/Newman Grove (12-0). Kickoff 2:45 p.m. For an entire season we wait. As football fans we want to see the best and thats what well see as two undefeated powerhouses in Boone Central/Newman Grove and Ashland-Greenwood will square off in the Class C-1 state championship game. Boone Central/NG QB Wyatt Mazour is one of the more electric players in the state with 1,378 yards rushing and 1,740 yards passing. This is the second season in a row that Ashland-Greenwood has made an appearance in the state championship game, losing last year to Cozad. Ironically enough, Cozad was also the team that prevented Boone Central/Newman Grove for making its second straight stop last season when they fell 35-7 in the semifinals. Its no secret that Boone Central/NG is led by one of the more electric players in the state in Wyatt Mazour. The do-it-all quarterback leads this balanced offense that averages 388.3 yards per game. Mazour is the Cardinals leading rusher with 1,378 yards on the season as well as passer with 1,740 yards through the air. Running back Joseph Brugger is another member of this stellar Cardinal senior class. Brugger has 682 rushing yards on the year to go with nine touchdowns. Receiver Travis Kennedy is the go-to deep threat for this team with nine touchdown receptions on the year. Defensively Boone Central/NG is led by seniors Colton Pelster andMichael Lipker. Pelster has 137 tackle points while Lipkers totaled 107 points for the season. Both Zac Glidden and Scott Ketteler each have four interceptions to their name. The Bluejays have an outstanding player in senior QB Bryce Chudomelka whos thrown for 1,419 yards on the season and 25 touchdowns. He has a lineup of great recievers to connect with led by Tyler Craven who has 11 touchdown grabs and Ben Stille whos added 10. Craven is also a force on defense with six interceptions and 90 tackles. Cory Washburn is another defensive playmaker, with six picks, and sophomore Brett Kitrell is outstanding in both lines. Sophomore running back Trevor Nichelson is also a force the Cardinals will have to deal with. Nichelson has rushed for 1,643 yards this season and has scored 24 touchdowns. Bob Sez: Boone 28, A-G 21.
