As an Oaktree volunteer and an active supporter of international development both myself and Oaktree as an organisation sometimes come across pessimism and cynicism. So many times I have had people say things like you are wasting your time the politicians wont listen or we are said to be naive or too ambitious in our goal of eradicating extreme poverty in our lifetime. I have had people say things such as it cant be done, the issue is too big or you wont be able to change the minds of the politicians... my response to those people is very simple...... WATCH US!!!! Because we can and we will do it. Just this week myself and hundreds of other passionate young Australians headed to Canberra on the #EndPoverty roadtrip. We met with 100 MPs in Parliament and this story is just one of the many many successes we had in our meetings. Maddi Jaye Ginnivan and Maddy Bennetts had a huge challenge, they begun on the back foot because they were meeting with a member of our current government, who we all know is not a supporter of Aid. They were set to meet with Andrew Broad. For those of you who arent familiar with Andrew Broads politics, he is a federal member for the National Party and he actually currently holds the safest seat in both the federal Coalition and the entire parliament. I am incredibly proud of these two women, and I am so excited to share this with the cyber world. Seeing these ladies announce their incredible news to hundreds of passionate Oaktree ambassadors was one of the highlights of my entire week. I will remember this for the rest of my life and if anyone ever tries to tell me we cant do it I am going to tell them about this story. One hour after Team Madds met with Mr Broad to discuss Oaktrees policy asks surrounding foreign aid and tax justice, this video was released......
