In 1943, nearly 2 MILLION Soviet soldiers faced nearly ONE MILLION Germans clashed for over a month in an epic that is now known as the Battle Of Kursk. The battle involved more than EIGHT THOUSAND tanks, SEVEN THOUSAND AIRCRAFT. THIRTY FIVE THOUSAND artillery pieces. By this date there were more than ONE MILLION casualties. Under the feet of the fighters in the Donentsk region, in mostly unmarked mass graves, are the bodies of hundreds of thousands of soldiers. Indeed, there are still enormous amounts of unexploded ordinance from that battle where they are fighting right now.
