As disasters can strike at any time, knowing how to communicate with your love ones is key. As it may be easier to make a long-distance phone call than to call across town during a disaster, your family communication plan should identify a contact, such as a friend or relative, who lives out-of-state for household members to notify they are safe. Complete a contact card for each family member to carry on them, whether in their wallet, purse, briefcase, backpack, diaper bag, etc., at all times.
