As for me, I will call upon God, And YeHoVaH(Blessed be His holy Name) shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will PRAY and CRY aloud, and He shall hear my voice(Tehillim/Psalms 55:16-17). A contemplation of David, the king of Israel. There are some who say that prayer is a crutch used by religious folks when they have no way out of their circumstances and life situations. Others mockingly accuse those who pray fervently and passionately of speaking to themselves. I pray because I believe with everything in my being that God exists. I pray because He commands it. I pray because I am not wise enough to solve all my problems, not strong enough to fight my own battles and not humble enough to forsake my own way for His. I pray for my suffering human beings and ask for compassion to extend my hand to the poor and exploited, to hear the cries of those unjustly treated and to have the courage to make a difference. I pray to see the beauty of creation even through the tragedies and miseries humans have inflicted on their environment and each other. I pray to forgive those who have wronged me, to strive for mercy instead of vengeance, love in the place of hatred, joy to overcome bitterness, peace and reconciliation instead of strife and war. I will pray even when it becomes unfashionable to do so. Amein.
