As history has shown time and time again, fear has unfortunately proved stronger than faith. For those whove fought so much for a more socially just and self determining Scotland, I feel our time will still come. I had hopes (perhaps a pipe dream) that a Yes vote would bring around a referendum on Scotlands head of state and the establishment of a Republic in the following years. A 21st century monarchy is a concept for me that sums up just how outdated this union of equals really is. Im sad to see the resignation of Alex Salmond today. Despite not always seeing eye to eye with the policies of his political party, I have found myself admiring him more and more as the campaign grew. For me, he has came across as genuine and full of heart. Seemingly a rarity in modern British politics. A real believer in the values he stands for and commendable for his long standing commitment to independence. Far from the egomaniacal, self serving dictator as he is so often painted as in national media. Today is Scotlands loss.
