As if I didn’t have enough to cause me anxiety, within the last week I have read of two women being stung to death by wasps. Both of these women seem remarkable in their own unique ways and I would like to acknowledge them. Lucie Roussel, mayor of La Prarie, Quebec was stung by 15 wasps while on vacation when she accidentally stepped on a hornets nest and died of an allergic reaction. The paramedics used the Epi-Pen, but she didn’t respond and died before making it to the hospital. Mayor Roussel leaves behind her 18 and 19 year old children, who lost their father years ago to a heart attack, so they are alone in the world. The other woman is Sarah Harkins, a mother of four with one special needs child and pregnant with her fifth child. She working in the backyard and was stung by either wasps or a bees, had an allergic reaction which caused an aneurysm to burst from the stress of the reaction. Mrs. Harkins was a devout Catholic and active member of her parish. She had her own blog and made clay rosaries which she would donate for fund raising events to a local crisis pregnancy center. I hope you will pray for the loved ones both these women leave behind and remember that life is precious and we never know when our time is over here on earth. Peace to you all.
