As is so often the case, the recent conversation at the Stinking - TopicsExpress

As is so often the case, the recent conversation at the Stinking River Coffee and Tea Emporium was about the weather. A group of Stinking River Valley citizens had met up at the Emporium to have some refreshments and just sit and visit for a spell. While the wait staff hustled about pouring bold, regular, decaf, Columbian, Earl Grey, Irish Breakfast, and Enchanted Cinnamon, the discussions were ongoing at every table. Scones, biscuits, toast, bagels, apple fritters, and pumpkin bread were being enjoyed between bits of conversation. Charlie Curer, who has a new girlfriend he met on the internet, said he thought we needed a good shower of rain. You would think that such a simple statement would just be agreed to and everyone would start talking about the latest in the Diddlers divorce. But, not so! Fred Farmer said he had 25 acres of good hay on the ground and he hoped the rain would hold off until he got it in a roll. Ken Read, who owns the Stinking River Bookstore and Fish Bait Company said he hoped it wouldnt rain until he got in his 18 at the Stinking River Country Club. Ida Reacher said she wished it would rain on her garden because her cucumbers were coming up good and needed a shower to get em growing. As long as it doesnt rain on Saturday, Buzz Clipper said, weve got a bunch of family coming in and were planning to cook and eat outside. Lotta Hautair, wife of Stinking River Valley politician Fuller Hautair, told the group that her cousins daughter was having an outdoor wedding on Saturday and she hoped it wouldnt rain. The discussion continued through the sipping of coffee and tea and the sound of forks hitting plates around the apple fritters. The group soon broke up and went to their homes or their jobs, all of them wishing they were in charge of the rain. Todays assignment from the Stinking River School of Theology and Stuff is sponsored by the Stinking River Coffee and Tea Emporium--bold to bliss, we have the cup for you. Now todays assignment. The reading today is Esther 4:9-17. As you read today, reflect on verse 14. As the story unfolds, what do you think of Mordecais words, Perhaps you have come to royal dignity for just such a time? How might that apply to your life? Does it apply? Go...read the Bible...enjoy your reading...let it speak...open your heart and your mind to the endless possibilities of the Holy Spirit.
