As its a rainy morning here in Reykjavik, I thought Id share an experience from last night as I finish my hearty breakfast... The (not so) secret life of Chadwick Murphy (if you dont get the reference, yer not a big enough Ben Stiller fan)... After my burger avec frommage at Cafe Paris, I ventured next door to the English Pub (name challenged in Iceland or tourist capitalization, you be the judge). While listening to perhaps the best acoustic duo cover band I have ever heard and sipping a few Guiness (thought of you Greg Clark), I became engaged in a chat with two local women. Not by chance really, but because they had a little beef with my bartender tipping habits. They claimed that Icelanders are proud people and tipping insults them. Hmmm...finding this a tad hard to believe, I of course tipped generously my next beer, and low and behold, the proud barman shook my hand and rung a bell behind the bar. Not really the actions of an insulted person I thought. Well needless to say, there were two empty seeds next to me moments later in a packed pub. The irony here is that when I asked them to guess where I was from at the beginning of our conversation, one guessed Australia and the other England. Hmmm...big tipping nations both of them are. ;). Silly viking girls. The next occupants of the bar seats were a pair of lesbians from London. They had met each other 3 weeks earlier and decided to go away on a adventure. They claimed the G & L scene is a little weak here, to which I told them Id take their word on it, then ordered my final Guiness of the night, as if I needed to convince them that Im not gay (only assuming that Guiness isnt a big seller in gay bars- could be wrong). Alright, into the rental vehicle to check out a few stops on the Golden Circle. Cheers,
