As its been one week since DirecTV blacked out our station, we have an update from our station manager that (hopefully) sheds some more light on the hang ups. We are still getting nasty viewer emails telling us to not be greedy, so to those people: read below. The biggest hang-up continues to be DirecTV’s unprecedented demand for the right to stream each of our Stations’ signals on the Internet. We still have not even obtained digital rights from our networks or syndicators. However, NPG has assured DirecTV that we will be willing to negotiate a fair price if and when we secure those digital rights. It just doesn’t make sense for us to agree to something we don’t have, but DirecTV continues to make this a major issue in our talks. While we have not yet reached agreement on rates for retransmitting our stations’ signals on DirecTV, we are close. We feel the stalemate could be resolved quickly if DirecTV would change its position on its demand for the streaming rights.
