As many of you have asked, no, the school administration did NOT - TopicsExpress

As many of you have asked, no, the school administration did NOT reach out to the Parnassus PTO before sending out their recent summer communication but they have not completely cut off coordination with the PTO either. The PTO Treasurer was in contact with school administration (Ms. Dyer) yesterday about delivery of the picnic tables that the Parnassus PTO just ordered, and in July with Mr. Cannon for delivery of 30 additional dictionaries for the classrooms and to request a letter to obtain exemption from MN sales and use taxes (which the school board has declined to allow Mr. Cannon to sign). This communication from Parnassus Preparatory School Administration is very disappointing to the Parnassus PTO. Rest assured, the Parnassus PTO is a legally incorporated, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides support to the school. The PTO has its own EIN/TIN and files taxes, like any other legal entity of our nature. As the parents who have been involved in the Parnassus PTO itself and in PTO events know, the Parnassus PTO has helped build this wonderful community of involved parents through various social activities through the years (Maple Maze Play Dates, Parnassus in the Park Play Dates, the Great Back to School Get Together, the Parnassus PTO Fun Run, etc...) At this point in time, community building is our main focus and we will be hosting The Great Back to School Get Together on Saturday, September 6th from 10-2 at Elm Creek Park Reserve where we will also be holding a PTO meeting to discuss with you (the PARENTS of the Parnassus PTO) how you would like to see the PTO proceed as we are all collectively a part of this great community. As parents who have been actively involved in the PTO know, over the past 3 years with the generous support of parents like you, the Parnassus PTO has supported the school in many ways, to include: 2011-13 • $15,000 for the playground and play equipment • $1,500 Teacher appreciation snacks/breakfasts/lunches • $1,000 for classroom cubbies 2013-14 • $9,000 for the Science Lab • $1,800 for SOG classroom dictionaries • $1,300 Teacher appreciation snacks/breakfasts/lunches • $1,000 for classroom cubbies • $100 for misc. supplies for the classrooms (pencil sharpener, pencils, etc.)—mostly reward program points 2014-15 (YTD) • $2,600 for picnic tables (delivery coordinated with Ms. Dyer for the week of Aug. 11) • $300 for SOG classroom dictionaries (delivered to Mr. Cannon July 14th) • $600 Misc. supplies for classrooms (pencils, glue sticks, dry erase markers, highlighters, etc.)—partly reward program points, to be delivered before fall break • $3,250 for the school music program (funding disbursement to the school TBD) Thank you for your continued support! Your 2014-15 Parnassus PTO Executive Board, President (open position) Vice-President, Miranda Bennett Secretary, Kristen Laursen Treasurer, Mandy Rhead Volunteer Coordinator, Rachael Holtgreve
