As most of you know, I smoke everything except aromatics.....so - TopicsExpress

As most of you know, I smoke everything except aromatics.....so you wont ever see me do a review on one. Thats just mundane. I realize that people do this often though especially when there is a new blend out or a blend that people have been raving about, like this one right here...GLP Sixpence. A lot of you know Ive played my part as a lab rat during the whole process of this blend. Ive smoked it in just about every form from ribbon, to plug to flake. After consumption of a production tin, I feel it is time for a proper review. So here goes. As most of us know this is Gregory L. Peases most recent addition to his Old London Series, and all in all probably my favorite yet. Upon cracking the tin I am greeted with the essence of figs, dark fired Kentucky and a slight aroma of a familiar liquor topping from days of old....(Im guessing because every time I smell it, it digs into my brain and puts me into a strange reverie like its been part of my life now or a past life). The topping is not strong at all. The flakes are the familiar GLP style of broken flakes in which most of us are familiar with. They might not be a beautiful steam pressed flake but they smoke just as good ,if not better then them. They break up easily to whatever consistency you favor. As usual with a flake, I prefer my Stanwell Zebrano, so I pack it somewhere between a gravity pack and a standard pack. .........light.........tamp........light......draw. Right from the gate with this one I am just floored by its balance and complexity. The dark fire and the perique take center stage initially with the Virginia and the topping forming a glue to bring them together. The taste reminds me of a fig newton on top of a perique flavored graham cracker.......its sublime. Like with most GLP blends, this is a multifaceted journey of complexity that doesnt shoot too far left or too far right. As I make my way down to the middle of the bowl, the perique starts to become a bit more prominent...becoming a little more pepper like but maintaining its fruity raisin like back drop. All the while the subtle topping is melding all these flavors together without taking away from the natural goodness that mother nature intended. The nicotine rides the line between moderate and high..... landing over Union Square but under JKP. I would say its about the equivalent of Fillmore. The room note is neither offensive nor aromatic. But it is pleasant. I normally reserve GLP for my Latakia blends and go to McClelland or Escudo for my VaPer blends....but Sixpence I believe will be part of my standard rotation. Also there is no tongue bite whatsoever with Sixpence, but it is also bold and satisfying. This is amazing stuff and I rate it 5 stars.....10/10...and two thumbs up. Highly recommended!!! P.s. I forgot to add that age and this blend will be best friends. This stuff is only going to get better with time....but is still great young. Make sure to get a few for the cellar.
