As much as I never liked McCain, elections do have consequences - TopicsExpress

As much as I never liked McCain, elections do have consequences and while we have been so distracted by Obamacare we failed to realize what was happening with education with money being given and accepted by states through the America Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the setting up of the SLDS (State Longitude Data System), and the collection of student data and the easing of already not so strict FERPA laws (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) for other government agencies, third parties, and what they called "authorized representative" to gain access to student level/personally identifiable information on state and even district level. There are no real consequences or teeth in the FERPA law for making sure this information collected on students is secure or really any substantial punishment for the misuse of this information. I feel a little lost in what direction we as parents and our Idaho legislators can do on a state level to protect the personal information on our children and also making sure it is not accessible by other government agencies, third parties, and was is deemed an "authorized representative." I feel very strongly that Tom Luna, along with Otter have failed us greatly in this area of education and student privacy. Can our Idaho legislators step up to the plate and try to protect student level/personally identifiable information and at least allow parents to opt out of any student level/personally identifiable information being accessed or shared by other governmental agencies, third parties, and any deemed "authorized representative" at the district and state level? What are your thoughts on this Tom Hamilton, Terri Seymour, Ann Thompson Seddon, Brent Regan, Vito Barbieri, and Paul Matthews ?
